Women's Hiking Shoes
When you’re hiking a trail—whether that means a casual afternoon stroll on your favorite path or an immersive, all-day trek—your feet are doing most of the work and taking the brunt of all the things that come your way. So why not make the journey a little easier on them? It may seem easier to just go with an old, beat-up pair of running shoes, but you may learn the hard way that you should’ve opted for something built for handling the terrain. And if you were to ask us what shoes to wear hiking, our Trail Runners SWTs would be the answer.
Here’s why: These hikers have a breathable one-piece upper, rugged, all-condition traction, stabilizing midsole support, and a sock-like collar that blocks debris. And did we mention the water-resistant coating that helps keep your feet dry when the weather (or trails) get a little wet? And the icing on the cake? Each pair of Trail Runners SWTs is crafted from renewable materials like sugarcane, ZQ Merino wool, and eucalyptus tree fiber.
Did you know that Allbirds shoes—including the Trail Runners SWTs—are machine washable? Start by removing the insoles and laces, then gently brush off any excess dirt using a soft brush or towel. Then place the shoes inside a linen bag or pillowcase and put them in the washing machine on the wool/delicates cycle with cold water. Use a mild, gentle detergent, and never use bleach. If the insoles require cleaning, you can do it by hand with a mild detergent. Once clean, allow them to air dry for a minimum of 24 hours, then reinsert the insoles and laces, and your shoes will be ready for your next trail adventure.
If it’s time for new insoles, you can replace your Allbirds insoles here.
The lifespan of hiking shoes like the Trail Runner SWTs varies depending on things like how often you use them, the terrain, and level of maintenance. Usually a well-maintained pair of hiking shoes can last between 500 to 1,000 miles—or approximately 1 to 1.5 years for regular hikers. However, this estimate is a guideline; some shoes might wear out sooner if subjected to rough terrains or heavy use, while others might last longer with lighter usage and proper care. If you notice visible tread wear, decreased support, or noticeable discomfort, it’s probably time to replace them. Regularly maintaining your hiking shoes, cleaning them after use, and replacing them when signs of significant wear appear will make sure you’re getting top performance and support when you’re out on the trails.
Since hiking can sometimes involve crossing streams or dealing with unexpected wet weather, it’s natural to wonder if you can waterproof your shoes to prevent soggy feet. The Trail Runner SWTs come with a durable, water-resistant finish that will help prevent your feet from getting soggy. However, prolonged exposure to water will eventually lead to wet feet, so tread accordingly! Of course, there are aftermarket products you can buy to waterproof your shoes, if needed—just be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
